One Piece: Oda’s Shocking Secret About the Serpent of Hellfire

otaku0rbitFebruary 8, 2025April 2, 2025

The Elbaf arc of One Piece has introduced a fascinating world myth, unveiling an ancient mural within the bark of the Adam Tree. This revelation has sparked excitement among fans, particularly due to the Harley Texts translated by Nico Robin. Among the cryptic messages lies the mention of the Serpent of Hellfire, an entity seemingly connected to past world destruction. But what exactly is this mysterious force, and how does it tie into the greater lore of Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece?

The Three Worlds Of One Piece

Through the Harley Texts and the Elbaf Mural, Oda introduced the idea of three worlds, each ending in destruction. These worlds are described as follows:

First World:

elbaf arc

Flames engulfed the land, and humans succumbed to their desires, touching the forbidden Sun. The enslaved prayed, and the Sun God appeared. The Earth God was enraged, and together with the serpent of infernal flames, shrouded the world in death and darkness. They would never meet again.

Second World:

One Piece

Breath stirred within the void, and the Forest God sent forth demons. The Sun did nothing but spread the fires of war. The people of the half-moon dreamed, the people of the full-moon dreamed. Humans slew the Sun and became Gods, and the Sea God raged. They Would never meet again.

Third World:

One Piece

In chaos, there is void. The troubled shadow remembers the promised day and hears the voice of the fractured moon. The Sun God dances and laughs, leading the world to its end. The sun will return once more, and a new dawn will arrive. Surely, this time, they will meet again.

The Serpent of Hellfire is specifically mentioned in the First World, working alongside the Earth God to bring ruin. However, its absence in the later worlds raises questions. Was this entity destroyed? Or does it live on in another form?

What Exactly Is The Serpent of Hellfire?

The world of One Piece is filled with mysteries, and the Serpent of Hellfire is no exception. While some speculate it is a literal creature, others believe it to be a metaphor for a powerful force that shaped history.

Theory 1: The Serpent is a Metaphor for the Mother Flame

The Mother Flame, introduced in the Final Saga, is a revolutionary energy source with devastating potential. The First World’s description of flames engulfing the land aligns with how the Mother Flame may have been misused, leading to catastrophic consequences. This could explain why the Earth God raged—possibly as a reaction to the destruction wrought by mankind’s ambition.

Theory 2: The Serpent of Hellfire is an Ancient Weapon

The Ancient Weapons in One Piece—Pluton, Poseidon, and Uranus—are known to possess destructive capabilities. If the Serpent of Hellfire was an early Ancient Weapon, it could have been responsible for reshaping the world during the First World’s destruction.

Theory 3: The Red Line is the Serpent of Hellfire

A popular theory suggests that the Red Line, the massive landmass dividing the Grand Line, is an artificial creation. The Harley Texts speak of an Earth God’s rage and the birth of a fiery serpent—this could describe a cataclysmic event where the world’s landmasses shifted due to volcanic eruptions. The Serpent of Hellfire may be a symbolic reference to the formation of the Red Line, possibly through the use of the Ancient Weapon Uranus.

How The Serpent Of Hellfire Destroyed The World

The idea of an all-consuming Serpent of Hellfire suggests mass destruction. But what exactly led to this apocalyptic event?

One key clue lies in One Piece Chapter 1138, where Vegapunk mentions an undying power source—likely the Mother Flame. This energy could be tied to a war that resulted in global devastation. Given the volcanic nature of the Red Line, it’s possible that an intense nuclear-level war triggered widespread tectonic shifts, leading to the formation of the Red Line and drastic changes in sea levels.

Furthermore, Nami’s comments in Chapter 604 state that the Red Line is composed of different climate islands—an unusual natural phenomenon. If the Serpent of Hellfire refers to the Red Line, then the text about it “shrouding the world in death and darkness” could indicate the blocking of natural ocean currents, causing weather imbalances and the chaotic climate of the Grand Line.

The Future of the Serpent of Hellfire in One Piece’s Final Saga

As One Piece approaches its climax, the Elbaf arc may reveal how the Serpent of Hellfire connects to modern events. With Imu and the Five Elders possessing knowledge of the Void Century, they may be trying to prevent another world-ending catastrophe linked to the Mother Flame.

Could Luffy and his allies uncover the truth behind this entity before history repeats itself? If the cycle of destruction is truly playing out again, then stopping the next Serpent of Hellfire event may be the key to changing the world.

Conclusion: The Serpent of Hellfire and the End of One Piece

The Serpent of Hellfire remains one of Eiichiro Oda’s most cryptic revelations in the Elbaf arc. Whether it is a literal creature, an Ancient Weapon, or a metaphor for past destruction, its role in the world’s history is undeniable. As the final saga unfolds, fans eagerly await the moment when Nico Robin, the Straw Hat Pirates, and the Elbaf Giants uncover the full story behind this legendary force.

What do you think the Serpent of Hellfire truly represents? Is it connected to the Ancient Weapons, or is it something far more dangerous? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Fans can read One Piece legally and for free through Viz Media, Shonen Jump, and the Manga Plus apps. The next chapter, One Piece 1139, is set to release on February 9, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest updates!
