My Hero Academia Special Episode “More” Is the Epilogue That Fixes the Ending

otaku0rbitApril 26, 2026April 26, 2026

Chapter 431 is the most divisive thing Kohei Horikoshi ever published. Fans called Deku’s future lonely, underwritten, rushed. Then Studio BONES dropped the official trailer for the My Hero Academia special episode OVA and suddenly that same ending looks like a masterstroke in slow burn.

Quick Facts: My Hero Academia Episode 170+1 “More”

  • Release Date: May 2, 2026 – 5:30 PM JST / 4:30 AM EST
  • Where to Watch: Crunchyroll (worldwide, excluding Asia)
  • Manga Chapter Adapted: Chapter 431 – Volume 42 final epilogue
  • Studio: Studio BONES / Bones Film
  • Time Skip: Eight years after the Final War
  • Director: Naomi Nakayama | Chief Director: Kenji Nagasaki
  • Music: Yūki Hayashi

3 Hidden Details in the “More” OVA Trailer

First Toga is back, and she’s directly tied to Uraraka again.

The trailer shows Himiko Toga surfacing inside Class 1-A reunion scenes, specifically in moments tied to Ochako Uraraka. That’s not a cameo. Horikoshi is forcing the audience to sit with the most emotionally unresolved thread of the entire final arc and this OVA is already telegraphing it won’t flinch.

Second Studio BONES brought back the entire Season 8 team. That almost never happens for a bonus OVA.

Director Naomi Nakayama, chief director Kenji Nagasaki, series composer Yōsuke Kuroda, and score composer Yūki Hayashi all return the exact core crew behind the Final Season. Maintaining that continuity for a single epilogue episode signals intent and budget far above a standard bonus release. The adult character animation in the trailer already reads sharper than the post-credit montage in Episode 170.

Third Deku as a U.A. teacher reframes One For All’s entire legacy.

After losing One For All in the final battle against Shigaraki, Deku received a new suit of super-powered armor from All Might in the anime’s final scene. Now, eight years forward, he’s standing inside U.A. as a teacher no longer defined by the quirk, but by the idea it always carried.

Didn’t Season 8 Already Show the Time Skip?

The finale’s post-credit sequence was deliberately wide and fast a montage, not a story. While Episode 170 briefly showed adult versions of the main cast and hinted at their lives after graduation, episode 170+1 is expected to go into far greater detail.

Chapter 431 appeared exclusively in the final tankobon, released four months after the main story ended meaning the majority of anime-only fans have never encountered this material. For them, the My Hero Academia special episode is genuinely new story, not a retread.

Why Chapter 431 Split the Fandom and Why the Trailer Already Answers It

The sharpest complaint was isolation. Deku, eight years forward, felt cut off no squad victory lap, no romantic resolution, no triumphant Symbol of Peace moment. On the page, it read cold.

The OVA is confirmed to include previously cut moments among them the long-awaited scene between Deku and Ochaco. Studio BONES has clearly expanded beyond the source chapter. This is an enriched adaptation, not a straight one.

The deeper argument stands on its own: Deku returning to U.A. as a teacher is the emotional resolution. He absorbed everything All Might poured into him the belief that anyone can become a hero, the willingness to burn himself down for the next generation. Placing him back inside those halls, now pouring that belief into someone new, completes the circle in a way no action sequence could.

FAQ

Is the MHA “More” special episode canon?

Yes. Chapter 431 was written and drawn by Kohei Horikoshi himself, included in the official final volume (Volume 42) of the manga. The OVA is a direct anime adaptation of that chapter — fully canon.

How long is the “More” OVA?

An official runtime has not been confirmed by Studio BONES or TOHO Animation as of publication. Standard special episodes in this format typically run 20–30 minutes. This article will be updated on release.

Do Deku and Uraraka end up together in “More”?

This is the one everyone is actually searching for. In Chapter 431, Deku tells Uraraka he wants to spend more time with her his first real choice made purely for himself, not for anyone else’s sake. Horikoshi himself was asked to confirm their status and responded by telling fans to re-read Volume 42 and draw their own conclusion. The OVA adapting this scene animated is exactly what the IzuOcha fandom has been waiting a decade for.

Does Deku still have One For All in “More”?

No. Deku lost One For All in his final battle against Shigaraki, and All Might gifted him a new suit of powered armor in the anime’s final scene. Eight years later in “More,” he operates as a pro hero and U.A. teacher using that armor not the quirk that defined his entire journey. That’s a huge part of what makes his arc feel complete rather than convenient.

The Verdict on the My Hero Academia Special Episode

In honor of the release, TOHO Animation is streaming earlier MHA seasons free on their official YouTube channel through late August the full journey, open for anyone who wants to walk it before the final door closes.

The My Hero Academia special episode “More” is not nostalgia packaging. It’s the episode that does the work the finale didn’t have runtime for. Studio BONES at full capacity, Yūki Hayashi back on the score, Toga in Uraraka’s orbit, and the Deku-Ochaco arc confirmed this OVA is the real ending, and May 2 on Crunchyroll is where the series earns its goodbye.
