Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo PV Is Out But Is MAPPA Actually Making a Full Anime?

otaku0rbitMay 1, 2026May 1, 2026

The JJK Modulo PV dropped on April 30, 2026, and cleared 1.7 million views on Shonen Jump’s official YouTube channel within 19 hours. I went through the PV frame by frame, cross-referenced every official statement from MAPPA and Shueisha, and the honest answer to the question every comment section is asking is not yet. Here is everything confirmed, and everything you should stop assuming.

I have read all 25 chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and followed MAPPA’s production announcements since the original series wrapped. What follows is not a recap of what other outlets reported. It is a breakdown of what the PV actually confirms and what it does not.

What Is Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo? The Actual Facts

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a 25-chapter sequel manga written by Gege Akutami the creator of the original series and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, the artist behind Cipher Academy. It serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 8, 2025, and concluded on March 9, 2026. Volume 3, subtitled “A Bright Future,” is the third and final volume and released in Japan on May 1, 2026.

The story is set in 2086, 68 years after the Culling Game. It follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin who team up with Maru (full name: Marulu Val Vol Yelvori), an alien refugee of the Simurian race, to defend Earth from an extraterrestrial invasion. The journey eventually pulls the characters back toward the past to find out what happened to Yuji Itadori after the original series ended.

Yuji is confirmed as a Special Grade Sorcerer in this timeline. Gege Akutami labels him “the Strongest” in the Volume 3 supplementary material. If you came to Modulo specifically to find out where Yuji ended up that is your answer, and it is not a bad one.

The manga is fully readable right now in English on Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app and Manga Plus by Shueisha. All 25 chapters are available. The physical Volume 3 has no confirmed English release date yet.

JJK Modulo PV Breakdown What MAPPA Actually Produced

The JJK Modulo PV is 31 seconds long. That is not a trailer for a full series. It is a PV a promotional video produced specifically to market the final manga volume. The distinction matters, and most outlets are not making it clearly enough.

The PV was directed by Shun Miyakawa, who previously served as a key animator on the Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc. Character design and chief animation direction were handled by Sota Yamazaki one of the standout animators from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, responsible for several of that season’s most praised action sequences. The producer is Masato Matsunaga. These are experienced, credited MAPPA staff, which is why the PV looks as polished as it does in under a minute.

Sota Yamazaki’s involvement in particular is worth noting. His Season 3 work on the Gojo vs. Sukuna sequences demonstrated an understanding of how to translate Akutami’s panel compositions into kinetic animation. His presence on this PV is a signal of intent MAPPA chose someone who knows this universe deeply, not a junior credit.

The voice cast features Junya Enoki as Yuji Itadori and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Mahito. The PV includes footage of Rika, Mahoraga, Maru, Tsurugi, Yuka, and two Simurian characters named Cross and Dabura. The footage is genuinely impressive for its length. But a PV produced to accompany a manga volume is not a greenlight for a series. No official source not MAPPA, not Shueisha, not Shonen Jump has announced a Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo anime adaptation as of May 1, 2026.

Why Is Mahito’s Voice Actor Narrating This PV?

This is the detail every outlet either ignored or mentioned without stopping to explain. Nobunaga Shimazaki the voice actor for Mahito, a villain who died during the Shibuya arc of the original series is narrating the JJK Modulo PV alongside Junya Enoki. Mahito does not appear as a character anywhere in Modulo.

His inclusion is a deliberate creative and promotional decision, not a lore signal. MAPPA selected two of the most emotionally resonant voices from the original series to create a bridge between where JJK began and where Modulo takes it. Enoki as Yuji represents the protagonist’s continuity. Shimazaki as Mahito represents the darkest chapter of that protagonist’s past the fight that cost Yuji the most. Pairing those two voices in a 31-second PV about a story set 68 years in the future is sophisticated fan communication. It is not a resurrection announcement. Do not read into it beyond that.

Where Does MAPPA Actually Stand Right Now?

MAPPA is currently in production on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4, which covers the Culling Game Arc Part 2 under the confirmed subtitle “Death Painting Wander Part 2.” No release window for Season 4 has been announced. After Season 4, the studio still has the Shinjuku Showdown arc the final arc of the original manga to adapt before the mainline JJK anime is complete.

JJK Season 3 ran 12 episodes from January 8 to March 27, 2026, on Crunchyroll. That production wrapped only weeks before this PV dropped. MAPPA is not a studio with idle capacity. They are running one of the most demanding active anime pipelines in the industry.

Given that reality, a full Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo anime series is not a near-term possibility even if it were greenlit today. Modulo is 25 chapters across three volumes. For context, the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train arc covered roughly the same chapter range and was adapted as a feature film rather than a series. The Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc followed the same model. Short-source-material JJK-adjacent properties are trending toward film or OVA treatment, not multi-cour productions. If a Modulo adaptation happens, that is the realistic format and it is realistically several years away based on MAPPA’s current commitments.

Aoi Todo’s Bonus Chapter What It Actually Delivers

Volume 3 includes a bonus chapter centered on Aoi Todo. For fans who spent the second half of the original series watching Todo lose his left hand in Shibuya and then fight compromised through the remainder of the Culling Game, this chapter is a direct acknowledgment of his arc. The chapter addresses where Todo lands emotionally and physically after everything the original series put him through, and it functions as a proper sendoff for one of JJK’s most genuinely memorable supporting characters.

Megumi Fushiguro does not appear in the bonus chapter. His fate is referenced elsewhere in the Modulo timeline through Nobara’s dialogue, but he does not receive a dedicated scene in Volume 3. That absence is intentional on Akutami’s part and lands with weight if you have read the full original series.

Will Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Get a Full Anime Adaptation?

The honest answer: not anytime soon, and nothing announced yet confirms it is coming at all. The PV is evidence that MAPPA has creative interest in the property. The staff choices Miyakawa directing, Yamazaki on character design suggest this was not treated as a throwaway promotional commission. But interest and capacity are two different things.

The Demon Slayer Mugen Train precedent is the closest model for how this likely plays out. Short manga arc, massive fandom demand, film format chosen over series. If JJK Modulo follows that path, the earliest realistic window for any adaptation announcement would be after MAPPA completes the Shinjuku Showdown arc in the mainline anime which itself has no confirmed production timeline. Realistically, you are looking at 2029 at the earliest for a Modulo adaptation announcement, not a release.

Both Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki’s closing remarks in Volume 3 suggest the door to this universe is open. Akutami specifically does not close the door on returning to this world. That is the closest thing to a promise you are going to get right now and it is worth something coming from a writer who ended his original series and then came back six months later with a sequel.

JJK Modulo FAQ

What is JJK Modulo even about?

JJK Modulo is a 25-chapter sequel manga written by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 8, 2025 to March 9, 2026. Set in 2086, 68 years after the Culling Game, it follows Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin alongside Maru, an alien refugee of the Simurian race, as they fight to defend Earth from an extraterrestrial invasion and uncover what happened to Yuji Itadori.

Is JJK Modulo different from the main Jujutsu Kaisen series?

Yes. The original Jujutsu Kaisen manga ran from 2018 to September 2024 across 30 volumes, written and illustrated entirely by Gege Akutami. JJK Modulo is a sequel spinoff with a separate artist, Yuji Iwasaki, a new generation of protagonists, and a futuristic science fiction setting. The mainline JJK anime is still mid-adaptation Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 is currently in production.

Has Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo ended?

Yes. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo concluded serialization on March 9, 2026, after 25 chapters. The third and final volume released in Japan on May 1, 2026, and includes a bonus chapter featuring Aoi Todo. No anime adaptation has been officially announced as of May 2026.

Is JJK Modulo getting a full anime?

No full anime adaptation has been announced as of May 1, 2026. MAPPA released a 31-second animated PV directed by Shun Miyakawa with character design by Sota Yamazaki to promote the final volume but this is a promotional video, not a series greenlight. MAPPA is currently producing Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 and has additional mainline arcs remaining. Based on comparable short-source-material adaptations, a film or OVA format is the more realistic path if an adaptation is greenlit. A realistic announcement window is no earlier than 2029.
